Today was a beautiful day at the hill, great weather a touch of powder falling in the morning and about 20 kids who eagerly showed up to ski with Wendy Lumby, an olympic skier from the ’88 Olympics.
It’s not everyday that you get to train with someone who’s gone to the Olympics, so why not jump at the opportunity. With the amazingly warm weather and great ski conditions, the kids only stopped for lunch! From 10am-3pm the kids went up and down and up and down, through the brushes and stubbies and getting tips at the end.
While there was an array of skill levels at the day camp, I know that all the kids skills were improved by the end of the day.
At the end of the day Wendy handed out some stickers to all the kids to help bring awareness to safety in skiing after a friend was killed in a ski accident. You can learn more about this great cause at www.nzfoundation.ca. As instructors we are taught to stay safe and keep the children we instruct safe so it is always great to bring a foundation that helps bring awareness to this out to everyone else as well.
While the kids burned a tonne of energy, there were still lots of smiles at the end of the day!
Enjoy your Christmas everyone, stay stafe and see you at lessons in the New Year!
